The Jamaicans rose to the occasion and expectedly swept the medals of the 100m race in Tokyo Japan .
The 100m considered the zenith of athletics because it defines completely the speed of man and attracts the most attention from most sports fans.
Many can afford to look the other way while the finals of some disciplines are ongoing but definitely not 100m that ends in a flash like thunder.
Does it remind you of Usain Bolt who made mincemeat of the 100m before retiring? Well the baton is still in Jamaica as the ladies finished first second and third in the race few hours ago claiming the gold the silver and the Bronze respectively.
Defending champion Elaine Thompson-Herah broke the Olympic record and defended her 100m title after an astonishing final in Tokyo.
Barely two hours after Dina Asher-Smith’s Olympic dream was shattered by a hamstring injury, Thompson-Herah stole the show with a quite breath-taking 10.61sec run that broke Florence Griffith-Joiner’s 1988 mark by one hundredth of a second.
She was followed over by double champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce in 10.74sec and Shericka Jackson in 10.76sec in a Jamaican 1-2-3.
The Jamaicans are here and are always here. The race has been won and lost. Prior to this race Nigeria’s Blessing Okagbare had been tipped to be among the contenders but alas ,we saw how the cookies crumbled with the usual blame game expected when Team Nigeria returns from Tokyo.
The Nigerian camp has recorded disqualifications, protests placard carrying and more. The basketball teams tipped to earn medal of any colour are partly out with the exit of the men’s team this morning following 80-71 defeat to Italy after losing two earlier matches to Australia and USA respectively.
The ladies after losing to France and USA will face Japan on Monday for what some have dubbed formality encounter.

These Jamaican ladies certainly deserve accolades and what a photo finish for Elaine Thompson-Herah. The Olympics holds once in four years and at the final you showcase your best in a matter of seconds and the Jamaicans have done that live!
