Osaka tipped as next Serena after clinching 2nd Aussie Open

Naomi Osaka has been tipped to be the next Serena Williams in the Glamour game of tennis after she blew away Jennifer Brady to clinch her second Aussie Open title on Saturday morning.

Brady on her part cannot say she has lost anything as she could take away the experience of hitting the final for the first time.

Some had predicted when both players made it to the final that Osaka is in for her 2nd title without necessarily underrating debutant Brady.

The match had all the makings of an epic final during a tight first set, but Osaka’s class and experience ultimately proved too much as she raced to a 6-4 6-3 victory in just under an hour and a half.

It was the first grand slam final with a significant crowd since last year’s Australian Open and with both players producing shots of the highest quality in particular during the first set those lucky enough to bag a ticket were treated to a spectacle.

Victory gives Osaka her fourth grand slam title at the age of only 23 and she looks set to be a dominant force in women’s tennis for some time to come.

The 2019 champion never looked overly troubled as she clinched a second crown at Melbourne Park and her fourth Grand Slam title in just one hour and 17 minutes with all four having come on hard courts.

“When we played in the semis of the US Open, a couple of months ago, and I told everyone that ‘Listen you’re going to be a problem’. And I was right,” said Osaka.

Jennifer Brady nice effort first time in the final

“It feels really incredible for me. I didn’t play my last Grand Slam with fans so just to have this energy it really means a lot.” said Osaka even as she told Brady “Your mum will be very proud of you” –

Osaka some say is on course and rightly so. With four Grand Slam titles in the kitty, she will need another 19 to equal that of Serena who has established herself all these years as the ‘Queen of the jungle’ with 23 Grand Slams in the kitty and in quest for the 24th which she could not achieve in Melbourne after losing to the same Naomi in the semis.
