Osimhen listed for Marc-Vivien Foe award

Rave of the moment, Victor Osimhen, has been listed among the African stars nominated for the prestigious Marc-Vivien Foe Award.

The Nigeria wonder-kid has been a revelation in his maiden season in Ligue 1, helping LOSC Lille get over the loss of Nicholas Pepe by settling quickly in France.

Over the calendar year, he’s proved that he can be Nigeria’s leading man following the retirement of Odion Ighalo, while his 13 top-flight goals have prompted transfer interest from overseas.

Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United are just some of the clubs reportedly eyeing up the West African youngster, who appears to have a bright future ahead of him.

The Marc-Vivien Foe award is the prize given to the best African player in Ligue 1 during the season.

First awarded in 2009—to Morocco forward Marouane Chamakh—the prize has been handed to some of the continent’s finest players over the years, with Gervinho, Vincent Enyeama and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang among those to have clinched the honour.

The prize is named after late Cameroon and Olympique Lyonnais midfielder Marc-Vivien Foe—twice an Africa Cup of Nations winner with the Indomitable Lions—who passed away on the field during the 2003 Confederations Cup.
