Osinbajo commends organisers of Ogun soccer tourney

Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has yet commended organisers of the inaugural Buhari Osinbajo Youth Football Tournament hosted last February in Ogun State under the auspices of the Nigeria for Justice (NFJ).

The tournament which was held at the at Dipo Dina International Stadium Ijebu –Ode featured young footballer of different skills and talents from sixteen out of the twenty local government areas of Ogun State.

Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, who was represented by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Monitoring and Evaluation, office of the Vice President, Mr Tunde Osibamowo, said sports can contribute to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP)of the country.

He further stated that the federal government has expressed its desire to take sports to the next level in Nigeria through grassroots development, while commending the initiative of NFJ President Olusola Orelaja efforts toward promoting and developing sports in Ogun State and Nigeria at large.

Meanwhile, Orelaja, a retired professional footballer and currently a licensed intermediary under FIFA said, said the competition was to complement the efforts of the present administration as football is an important tool for promoting unity.

Orelaja who is also the Leader and Ambassador of DAYM further said the programme is to support the initiative of President Muhammadu Buhari-led government in the promotion of good governance as well as support for the incoming Governor Dapo Abiodun in the state.

Imeko-Afon LG, that emerged as the winner, received cash prize of three hundred thousand naira and twenty thousand naira appearance fee.

Ijebu-Ode LG came second with cash prize of two hundred thousand naira and twenty thousand Naira appearance fee while Ado-Odo-Ota came third with cash prize of one hundred thousand naira and twenty thousand naira appearance fee.

Captaining the side again, Mikel saved the day for Boro in the late stages when he headed off the line after a scramble in the area.

Sat behind the midfield and swept up but at times in the second half struggled with the pace as Hull asked questions.
