Ozil’s decision sees Arsenal save significant amounts of money

Mikel Arteta’s decision to freeze out Mesut Ozil is reportedly saving Arsenal a significant amount of money.

Ozil is the Gunners’ best-paid player earning £350,000-a-week as a basic salary.

But despite this, the German hasn’t kicked a ball yet for Arsenal this season, with Arteta even leaving Ozil out of his Europa League squad.

Arteta has to submit a 25-man squad for the Premier League in a week’s time, and there are claims he could pull the same stunt twice by leaving Ozil out once again.

But Arteta’s decision to isolate Ozil may not be entirely bad news for the Gunners, as it is actually saving the club some money.

Obviously, in order to save real money where Ozil is concerned, the club would sell him.

But Ozil has made it clear time and time again that he will not be leaving north London until his contract expires in the summer of 2021.

By reducing his game time, Arsenal are at the very least avoiding paying Ozil appearance money, according to The Athletic. Not only this but the Gunners also do not have to shell out on performance-related bonuses.

This has seen Arsenal save a significant amount of money.

Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger recently spoke out about Ozil’s predicament, telling BBC Sport: “I feel it is a waste for him.
