Patrick Bamford signs new five-year deal at Leeds

Patrick Bamford has set his sights on firing Leeds into Europe after signing a new five-year contract with the club.

The 27-year-old, who scored 17 goals in the Premier League last season, was into the final year of his original deal at Elland Road and had attracted interest from Tottenham.

But Bamford has ended speculation over his future by agreeing fresh terms to keep him at Leeds until 2026.

Patrick Bamford has put an end to speculation about his Leeds future by signing a new deal

‘I know that Leeds want to get back to where they were and hopefully reach Europe at some point, and that is my ambition as well,’ said Bamford.

‘This is not the kind of club where we are in the Premier League and we are happy, we are striving for the next step. You have always got to be looking towards something.

‘I remember the days when Leeds were in Europe and they were a team everyone was frightened of. That is what the fans have been used to and is something that will keep pushing us on and we will strive towards.’

Bamford joined Leeds in a £10million transfer from Middlesbrough in 2018. He has made 111 appearances for the club, scoring 43 goals.

‘Patrick is a very important player for us,’ said United boss Marcelo Bielsa. ‘He is one of the best strikers that English football has.’

Bamford added: ‘There has not been many times in my career where I have been as settled as I am now. It was important for me to get this tied down and concentrate on the season ahead.

‘I have improved no end under Marcelo. I have struck up that rapport with the fans and I am enjoying every minute of it.’
