PFA Championship team of the season: Mikel, Etebo out, Abraham in

John Mikel Obi and Oghenekaro Etebo were not considered good enough to make the PFA Championship team of the season despite posting some quality performances for their respective clubs.

While Obi is on the payroll of Middlesbrough which he now captains, Etebo plays for Stoke City and has been prominent, chalking up two goals to his name.

Another Super Eagles player who failed to make the list was Semi Ajayi of Rotterham United who won the club’s player of the month award for March.

In the absence of the trio, voters could not overlook the performance of Aston Villa forward, Tammy Abraham.

Known as Kevin Oghenetega Tamaraebi Bakumo-Abraham, the England Under-21 international has been in lethal form for Villa leading the way up front as their top scorer with 25 goals to his name this season.

The striker, who has also spent time on loan with Swansea and Bristol City, will be hoping to add promotion from the Championship to his CV, after Dean Smith’s side secured their place in the end-of-season play-offs, aided by a superb run of 10 straight wins.

Abraham is joined in the side by his team-mate Jack Grealish, despite the midfielder missing three months of the season with a shin injury.

The rest of the Team of the Year is dominated by players from promotion-chasing trio Norwich City, Leeds United and Sheffield United.
