Former Manchester United and Everton defender Phil Neville has endorsed Alex Iwobi’s switch to the Merseyside as he believes that the Nigerian will show his true self at the club, SportingLife gathered.
The 23-year-old was heavily criticised by Gunners fans for some average performances during his time in North London.
He joined the Toffees for a whopping £40million after making 148 appearances and scoring 15 goals for Arsenal.
Speaking on Skysport, Phil opined: “I think it’s good, Iwobi moved out of Arsenal. He got the qualities to play for Arsenal without a shadow of a doubt.
“He is that type of ‘top six player’ with the qualities that he has got but sometimes you’ve got to take a step back and go into a club like Everton where you are a bigger fish in a smaller pond and he can deliver.
“People look at you to win games and I think, we will see now the true Iwobi. His stature and qualities will suit Everton.”
Iwobi hopes to start when the Toffees hosts Sheffield United next week Saturday.
