Pogba hands Man Utd timely boost ahead of new season

Paul Pogba has handed Manchester United a boost after returning to training after recovering from Covid-19.

The French international tested positive for the virus last month and has spent the last two weeks in quarantine at home.

The illness forced Pogba to pull out of the recent Nations League internationals against Sweden and Croatia.

But he has made a full recovery and joined the rest of his United team-mates in training today ahead of this weekend’s pre-season friendly at Aston Villa.

But his return to fitness is a welcome lift for United in the wake of a difficult few weeks off the pitch that have seen captain Harry Maguire arrested in Greece following a drunken brawl with police and teenage sensation Mason Greenwood sent home from the England camp in Iceland after breaking lockdown rules.

Juan Mata, meanwhile, continues to train alone at home as he continues to quarantine after returning from a break in Spain and will not be involved in the game with Villa.

Mata is one of a handful of first-team stars still to report at United’s training ground along with Sergio Romero, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Phil Jones, Fred and Nemanja Matic.

Solskjaer is expected to hand Dean Henderson his United debut in the Villa game ahead of his first full season in the first-team squad.
