Pre AFCON friendly: Burundi tackle Tunisia in friendly for Eagles

Nigeria’s group opponents at the Africa Cup of Nations, Burundi have been confirmed to face Tunisia in an international friendly as part of build up to the tournament billed for this summer in Egypt.

Burundi who have been throwing into national mourning following the death of one of their key players Papy Faty on Thursday would tackle the Carthage Eagles in Rades at a date yet to be fixed.

Playing in their first Afcon final, Burundi are in Group B with Guinea and Madagascar and Nigeria whom they kick start their campaign against on June 22 in Alexandria.

They edged out 2015 AFCONhost Gabon in the last round of qualifier to qualify.

Meanwhile the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has conveyed its condolences to their Burundi counterparts following the death of Faty.

“We offer our thoughts and send our condolences to the Burundi Football authorities and National team over the loss of their player Faty Papy. May his soul Rest In Peace,” read the tweet.

Faty who would have been in Egypt with the Burundi national team collapsed on the pitch on Thursday afternoon in Swaziland.

He was on the pitch for 15 minutes playing for Malanti Chiefs against Green Mamba and was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
