Premier League chiefs, FIFA to meet on  Wolves, Newcastle

Premier League chiefs will hold talks with FIFA amid fears that Wolves and Newcastle could lose key players when domestic action returns next weekend.

Wolves striker Raul Jimenez did not travel for Mexico’s World Cup qualifiers against Jamaica, Costa Rica and Panama due to red list quarantine rules, which also prevented Newcastle midfielder Miguel Almiron from linking up with Paraguay. Anyone returning to the UK from those territories must isolate in a hotel for 10 days.

Jimenez may miss Wolves’ trip to Watford on September 11 if FIFA invoke their five-day ban, applicable when clubs do not release selected players.

The Daily Mail says Prem chiefs will attempt to intervene to ensure there are no suspensions handed to players. Both they and FIFA understand the unique difficulties of the pandemic and are keen to find an amicable solution.
