Premier League clubs slammed for hiking replica shirt prices

Premier League clubs have been blasted for raising replica shirt prices by up to 69%.

Supporters barred from games since March look likely to be shut out for months more after the new season kicks off next month.

But some clubs are still cashing in on their loyal fans.

Top flight sides Chelsea, and Manchester City are charging up to £100 for a basic replica home shirt – up an eye-watering 69% from last year’s £65.

Arsenal are also demanding £100 for a replica Gunners shirt for next season.

Personalising a shirt with a player’s name and number adds to the price.

Spurs are charging £70 for a basic adult home shirt, increasing to up to £95 if personalised.

Liverpool, Manchester United and Newcastle United are all asking £65. The Liverpool shirt price rockets to £97.95 if fully personalised.

Clubs have often been criticised for releasing too many strips each season, with most having a home, away, and a third change strip.

With many fans struggling financially amid the coronavirus pandemic, some will be unable to purchase a kit this summer.

Crystal Palace (£50) and Brighton (£52) are the two cheapest shirts on offer for next season, with Leicester ’s £55 replica shirt third on the list.
