PSG ready to battle Arsenal, Barcelona and Bayern for Onana

Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly set to compete with Arsenal, Barcelona and Bayern Munich for Everton star Amadou Onana.

Onana has been a standout player for Belgium during the Euro 2024 tournament. In a Belgian team that has struggled to find its rhythm, Onana has been a beacon of hope and creativity. His ability to win balls, both in the air and on the ground, has been pivotal. The Everton midfielder recovered 18 balls and won 70 per cent of his duels during the group stage. Additionally, his passing accuracy has been exceptional, with a 92% success rate, completing 159 out of 173 passes.

According to Foot Mercato, PSG are actively looking to strengthen in midfield and see Onana as a perfect fit. The financial aspects of the deal also make Onana an attractive option for PSG. Everton’s need to sell to balance their books means that Onana could be available for a transfer fee between €55 million (£47m/$59m) and and €60m (£51/$55m), which is significantly less than the €100m (£85m/$107m) demanded by Benfica for Joao Neves.

The interest in Onana is not new. During the winter transfer window, Barcelona made initial contact with Onana’s entourage. However, due to financial constraints, the Catalan club could not pursue the transfer further. Manchester United have also been monitoring Onana for several months. Despite their long-standing interest, the Red Devils are now focusing on signing Manuel Ugarte, leaving the door open for other clubs, including Arsenal and Bayern Munich, to swoop in for Onana.

Onana’s stock continues to rise as he proves his worth on the international stage. His physical attributes, such as his height and strength, combined with his technical abilities, make him a well-rounded midfielder. He is comfortable playing both as a defensive midfielder and in a more advanced role, allowing him to adapt to various tactical setups. The upcoming match against France in the round of 16 will be a significant test for Onana, providing him with an opportunity to showcase his skills against one of the tournament favourites.
