R/Madrid fans unhappy with sidelined injury sidelined Bale

Furious Real Madrid fans accosted Wales international Gareth Bale on Friday as he left Madrid training ground still recovering from injury.

The winger was exiting Valdebebas when the supporters confronted him, yelling abusive chants and appearing to throw a pen at his car.

Bale glared at the perpetrator through his window before driving off with their insults ringing in his ears.

The video, released on social media, shows the group telling Bale where to go, and using the Spanish insult ‘Maricon!’, which is a homophobic slur.

One fan then seems to throw something at his car, striking his window, which causes Bale, wearing sunglasses, to stop driving and stare at the fans, who continue to gesture outside his window.

As Bale then drives off in his black Audi, the group resume their insults again.

The supporters are thought to be unhappy about Bale picking up another injury on international duty with Wales.

The 32-year-old has not played for Los Blancos since late August after sustaining a major hamstring injury in training, but played for Robert Page’s side in their 5-1 against Belarus in a World Cup qualifier.

Bale was taken off at half-time in that game and he will now likely be out for another three weeks, frustrating fans who feel he is prioritising Wales duty to the detriment of his club career.

That impression was further underlined when Bale jokingly held up a flag saying ‘Wales. Golf. Madrid. In that order.’ after his country qualified for Euro 2020.

Bale is out of contract in the Spanish capital at the end of the season and is expected to leave the Bernabeu on a free transfer.
