Raja bundle Enyimba out of CAF Confederation Cup

It was end of the road for Enyimba as they crashed out of the 2018 CAF Confederation Cup at the semi-final stage courtesy of a 3-1 aggregate loss against Raja Casablanca of Morocco on Wednesday night.

The Aba Elephants lost the first leg of the semi-final 1-0 in front of home fans and needed a 2-0 result to qualify for the final of the competition.

Enyimba had a positive start to the game as they troubled the home side’s defence in search of an early goal but it was the Moroccans that went in front as Zakaria Hadraf capitalized on an error by the Aba Elephants defence, rounded goalkeeper Theophilus Afelokhai before tapping into an empty net.

Despite the noise inside the Stade Mohammed, Enyimba held their own and finished the first half with a better possession 55 -45 percent, but their performance lacked a goal.

It went from bad to worse in the second half for the Aba landlords, when Enyimba defender, Isiaka Oladuntoye turned a cross past Afelokhai to register an unfortunate own goal.

Enyimba managed to get a goal back through substitute Abdulrahman Bashir but it was already too late as the game finished 2-1 after 90minutes and 3-1 on aggregate in favour of Raja, who will now play AS Vita Club in the final after the DR Congo side hammered Al Masry 4-0 in the second semifinal after the first leg ended goalless.
