Ramadan: I won’t stop players from fasting-Bala

The Technical Adviser of Nigeria Professional Football League side, Kwara United, Abubakar Bala says Muslim players in the team are free to observe their dawn-to-dusk fasting on match days during the month of Ramadan.

The Ramadan fast, in which food and even a sip of water is prohibited, is intended to bring the faithfuls closer to God; a moment honoured with abstinence from food, water, cigarettes and sexual activity during the daylight hours, begins today across the world.

In a chat with Sportinglife.ng after guiding the Harmony Boys to a 4-1 victory over Lubcon Oil Football Club in the semifinals of the FA Cup on Wednesday, Bala says the players are professionals and will know how to conserve their energy during the holy month of Ramadan.

“Fasting in the month of Ramadan is considered obligatory in Islam and the muslims in the team are free to observe it. Mind you, we will only play three NPFL matches during this period.
We will play MFM this weekend, then play Ifeanyi Ubah at home before traveling to Bauchi to play Wikki Tourists. I believe the players will not be affected with the fast. They are professionals and know how to go about it with their training and match schedules,” Bala told SportingLife.ng.

Kwara United will now play the winner of the match involving ABS FC and Kwara Football Academy in the final of the State FA Cup.
