Rangers assure fans of steady rise to the top

Coach Salisu Yusuf of Rangers International Football Club has assured the club’ numerous fans that it will be a steady climb off the bottom rung of the NPFL log with a win over visiting Jigawa Golden Stars F.C of Dutse in a rescheduled match day 7 fixture slated for Nnamdi Azikiwe stadium, Enugu.

The vastly experienced gaffer will lead his wards out at ‘The Cathedral’, Wednesday, February 12, 2020, with the three points at stake not negotiable.

After two drawn games on the road against table topping Lobi Stars and Akwa United in the last four days, the ‘Flying Antelopes’ look set to annex all three points against the returning premiership boys with new coach Gilbert Opana promising to ruffle some feathers.

Coach Yusuf said, “We have done well in our two away matches in the NPFL and I believe that such form will continue. We have to continue from where we stopped by winning convincingly. Sure, in every match one is expected to work extra hard as victory is expected all the time.”

He further said, “We know its not going to be an easy match against Jigawa Golden Star but we hope to smile home after the match. We cannot underrate the visitors but we have made winning our watchword. Any team that will beat us must work extra hard because we are not thinking of losing away, not to talk of home. Every team is beatable hence, I have told my players to up their game in every match.”

Also speaking ahead of the first encounter between both sides for over a decade, Super Eagles B defense lynchpin, Ifeanyi Nweke said, “We all know the importance of tomorrow’s game even when we have three home games at hand. We believe it will be a very good point for us as we expect a good match from the boys from Dutse. The atmosphere in camp is charged for the maximum points as we are well motivated to get the win. By God’s grace we shall be victorious.”

Jigawa Golden stars hit Enugu with some experienced legs in such players as goalkeeper Dami Paul and Papa Idris have two wins on the bounce under new coach, Gilbert Opana, who is just two weeks with club, seats on the 17th position with twenty points from 18 matches while Rangers occupy the 18th position with seventeen points from 14 matches will be banking on the likes of Ibrahim Olawoyin, Israel Abia, Ifegwu Ojukwu and Tony Shimaga to annex the three points at stake and extend its unbeaten run to nine matches.

Coach Opana said ahead of the tie, “We are in Enugu to play a very good match and expect a good result as well knowing fully that we did not start the season well even as I was not there at the start. My opposing coach is a very sound coach who likes good football so there will be beautiful football at ‘The Cathedral’ on Wednesday.”
