Rangers’ striker Morelos gets three -match ban

Ranger’s striker Alfredo Morelos will be banned for Rangers’ upcoming clash with Kilmarnock.

The striker was cited for stamping on Ryan Porteous of Hibernian in the 1-0 Premiership win at Easter Road last Wednesday night.

A hearing was set for Tuesday, February 2 but Rangers have decided not to contest the charge.

Kilmarnock keen on snapping up promising Premier League star on loan deal

That means Morelos will be unavailable to Steven Gerrard for the next three matches against St Johnstone, Hamilton and Kilmarnock, with the Ayrshire side heading to Ibrox on Saturday, February 13.

The Colombian international has hit 11 goals in 30 games this season and appeared to have improved his discipline after just six yellow cards in that time.

However, he was given a previous suspension after catching Mark Connolly of Dundee United with his arm in December.

The Glasgow club accepted a two-match ban on that occasion and the incident with Porteous has once again seen him banned for violent conduct.

Given it’s a second offence, Morelos will be forced to watch the next three matches from the stands.

Morelos who joined Rangers from HJK in 2017 has made 112 appearances for the club with 51 goals to his credit.
