Rashford Is Youngest in Sunday Times philanthropy list

Marcus Rashford has become the youngest person ever to top the Sunday Times’ Giving List after helping earn £20 million of charity in the past year.

Rashford’s campaigning to get school meals for underprivileged children outside of school term time turned government policy around on two occasions in the past year.

The Manchester United forward has rightly earned all sorts of plaudits for his exceptional work off the pitch, whilst still having a good season on it, with even some Liverpool fans considering giving him a tribute at Anfield earlier this season.

The full extent of Rashford’s incredible charitable work can now be seen on the Sunday Times’ Giving List, which the 23-year-old tops.

The list measures philanthropists by the ‘charitable sums given or raised’ against their net worth. The England international has donated, and inspired others to donate, £20 million to FareShare in the past year.

In comparison, the player’s personal wealth is reported to be £16 million, meaning he has a ‘Giving Index’ of 125%, far greater than anyone else.

The Times own charity appeal earned over £3 million over Christmas and was fronted by the England and United forward, who is likely to go to this summer’s Euros.

Sir Alex Ferguson and billionaire philanthropist Sir Michael Moritz, who ranks 51st in the Giving List, matched the money donated to the Times as well.

His £16 million worth puts him joint 50th on the list with fellow footballers Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain, Jack Wilshere, Danny Welbeck and Riyad Mahrez all just above him.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is joint 34th on that list, with £25 million, and is also sixth on the Giving List, having helped earn £4 million for charity.
