Real Madrid blows €300,000 to subdue Barcelona in Facebook war

Real Madrid have reportedly blown €300,000 in an attempt to beat El Clasico rivals Barcelona to reaching 100million Facebook followers.

The teams, who are usually more accustomed to battles on the pitch, have been at war trying to reach the landmark total first.

Los Blancos appear to have won the fight and now boast 110million Facebook followers compared to Barcelona’s 103million.

But it’s the revelation from Spanish outlet Info Libre about how much Real have spent in order to defeat their bitter foes which has caught many off guard.

Last season’s La Liga champions frittered away €300K to beat Barcelona to the much-vaunted 100million follower mark.

Real and Barcelona are head and shoulders above the rest when it comes to followers on Facebook, with Manchester United way back in third on 73million.

Bayern Munich are fourth on 52million, followed by Chelsea (48million), Juventus (43million), PSG (42million), Man City (39million), Liverpool (37million) and Arsenal (37million).

Unfortunately for the two La Liga giants, their dominance on social media has not matched their performances on the pitch this season.

The pair trail Atletico Madrid in La Liga – 13million Facebook followers, if you’re wondering – while both sides also lack the financial firepower they once had due to coronavirus.
