Real Madrid considering bringing in ex-Lille coach

Christophe Galtier, the man who led Lille to glory in Ligue 1 ahead of dominators PSG, is being rumoured as a potential replacement for Zinedine Zidane at Real Madrid. He forms another option for ‘Los Blancos’ alongside Pochettino and Conte.

Zidane’s departure has left Madrid bare. The lateness of his decision has left the club with little room to manouvre, with names now starting to appear thick and fast as possible replacements for the Frenchman.

According to journalist Edu Pidal from program ‘El Transistor’, Christophe Galtier is a name that has entered the race to become RM boss, after he said goodbye to Lille following a historic season with the club.

The Frenchman took his side from the relegation zone to champions of Ligue 1 in just two seasons, knocking off a PSG side who has been dominating French football for years.

With the first step taken – Galtier’s departure from Lille – the next would be for Madrid to convince him to join the Spanish capital. After he recently said goodbye to the French side, Galtier certainly hasn’t lacked offers to return to work.

“I leave Lille with an incredible achievement, but I need something else. I don’t want to fall into a routine, like has happened many times before, especially during my time at Saint-Etienne”, he said, referring to his spell at the club between 2009 and 2017.

According to reports, his name is not the only one available for Madrid. President Florentino Perez would prefer Pochettino or even Conte, two managers with a lot of experience at the highest level.

However, Galtier intends to lead one of Europe’s biggest sides after achieving a historic feat with Lille, and it’s an option not to be discarded for the Spanish giants.

Real Madrid are keeping an eye on Lille in general, as they are reportedly also interested in their director of football, Luis Campos.
