Referees assigned for Milan-Liverpool and Real Madrid-Inter

Dutch referee Danny Makkelie has been assigned to Milan’s must-win Champions League match against Liverpool, while Felix Brych takes Inter’s showdown with Real Madrid.

UEFA have announced the officiating teams for Tuesday’s European fixtures, as the group stage concludes.

Makkelie will be in charge of the big clash between Liverpool, who are already certain of top spot, and Milan, who need a victory to hope for passage to the Round of 16.

He is assisted by fellow Dutchman Pol van Boekel in the VAR booth, while Dennis Higler is the Fourth Official.

This represents the first time Makkelie has crossed paths with Milan, but he oversaw six Italian victories, three draws and five defeats between club and country.

He officiated three Liverpool wins, one stalemate and one loss, the defeat coming in extra time to Atletico Madrid in the Round of 16 in March 2020.

Inter are also in action on Tuesday, as they visit the Bernabeu in a head-to-head for the chance to win the group.

German Felix Brych will officiate that match, with Marco Fritz as his Video Assistant Referee and Daniel Schlager as the Fourth Official.

Real Madrid have 12 points and Inter 10, so a victory would allow the Nerazzurri to leapfrog Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

Brych has never officiated an Inter match before, but his record with Italian sides between club and country is of 14 victories, eight draws and eight defeats.

Real Madrid have traditionally done well with Brych, winning seven, drawing two and losing only two.

Among the defeats was a 4-1 at home to Ajax in March 2019, which saw Nacho Fernandez sent off in stoppages.
