Retaining CAF award a dream come true–Salah

Liverpool and Egypt forward, Mohammed Salah has revealed how excited he is winning the 2018 CAF Africa Player for the second time.

“As a child l have always dreamt of a day like this and l am happy that it has come to pass,” said Salah after he was presented with the award by Liberia President and ex-footballer, George Weah.

Salah who scored 44 goals across all competitions to help the Reds finish as runners-up in the Champions League last season,beat off competition from Arsenal rival Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Liverpool team-mate Sadio Mane to claim the prestigious award at Tuesday’s ceremony in Dakar, Senegal.

He becomes the fourth African after El Hadji Diouf, Samuel Eto’o, Yaya Toure to win the award back to back.

The 26-year-old also won the BBC Player of the year, Premier League Player of the Year and was ranked high in Goal 50, Fifa Best Awards and Ballon d’Or to cap a stunning year.

In the women’s category, Thembi Kgatlana of South Africa edged out the Nigeria duo of Asisat Oshoala and Francesca Ordega to become the second female player from her country to win the award.
