30 years old Ashley Smith was described by judge Ian Bourne QC as a prolific “career criminal” who was well known to the police.

Smith, of Archway of north London, pleaded guilty to the attempted robbery close to Kolasinac’s home in Hampstead, northwest London, on July 25.

Both Smith and his accomplice, Jordan Northover tried to conceal their identities and were circling the area when they saw the players.

The judge said Smith, who appeared in court by video link, played a leading role.

They were dressed in helmets and dark clothing.

The court heard that Kolasinac had arranged to meet Ozil, who was in a car with his newlywed wife.

They were challenged by Kolasinc whose bravery was commended by the judge.

The judge noted: “But that was not the end of it. The two men pursued the car along the high road and attempted to stop the vehicle, throwing stones at the car.”
