Rohr: Mikel not fit

Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr has explained why he dropped team captain John Mikel Obi for its October 13 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Libya.

“Captain Mikel is still not ready to come back. He needs time to recover before joining the team”, Rohr disclosed to SportingLife.ng.

The Eagles coach made the disclosure on Monday after announcing the team list for the double header.

He is also praying fervently for an injury free week and weekend for his players.

Some of the Eagles stars would be engaged in the UEFA competitions while some of them will also play for their European clubs this weekend before traveling to Nigeria for the crucial AFCON qualifying matches against Libya and Rohr has confessed that he is hoping that none of his players would not cop any injury before coming to Nigeria.

“The performances of our players for their European clubs have been impressive both in their respective leagues and also in Europe. We hope that in the European games during the week and this weekend matches in clubs will be okay and injury free for everybody (players)”, Rohr disclosed.

The Franco- German football tactician also revealed that he has been very active monitoring the Super Eagles players and was happy that all the injured Eagles’ first team players are fully fit and have been playing well for their respective clubs abroad.

“We had a big scouting in the last games and are happy to see that the injured players like Alex Iwobi, Shehu Abdullahi, Moses Simon and defender Jamilu Collins are back in the Eagles again”,” he concluded.
