Rohr storms England for Eagles’ stars

SportingLife.ng can report that Super Eagles Head Coach Gernot Rohr will travel to England this weekend to meet with Eagles’ players that are plying their trade in the English Premier League and English Football League Championship ahead of the African Cup of Nations camping.

The team’s media officer, Toyin Ibitoye told SportingLife.ng that Rohr will meet with Super Eagles captain, John Obi Mikel, Leicester City midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi, Stoke City Midfielder, Oghenekaro Etebo and Rotherham FC defender, Semi Ajayi to discuss his AFCON plans with them.

Ibitoye said the coach’s visit was part of his plans to meet with players that are playing in Europe before he announces his 26-man provisional squad for the tournament. The list will be trimmed down to 23 before they depart for Ismaila, Egypt for their final camping ahead of the competition.

The Franco-German tactician had said in one of his interviews that he will travel to England to have extensive talks with Mikel to know his readiness for Africa’s biggest football showpiece.

“Coach Gernot Rohr will travel to in England this weekend to meet with Super Eagles players. The English Football League Championship ended last week and The Premier League season will end in England this weekend and the coach wants to use the opportunity to interact with the players before they travel to their different destinations,” Ibitoye said to SportingLife.ng.

“It is like a European tour to meet with players after their rigorous season before the AFCON camping. The coach may visit other players in Europe too. We are looking forward to a fantastic campaign and good outing in AFCON as well. I can tell you as well that the provisional list will include 26 players that will be trimmed down to 23-man final list.” Eagles will start their camp in Asaba where  they will take on Zimbabwe at the Stephen
Keshi Stadium on June 8.

The team’s delegation will depart Asaba for Ismaila, Egypt for their final camp ahead of the competition. Eagles will face Senegal in their last preparatory game on June 16 at the Ismailia Stadium.

On June 17, the team will move to Alexandria in Egypt, the venue of their Group B games. Super Eagles will start their AFCON campaign with Burundi on June 22 before clashes against Guinea and Madagascar on
June 26 and June 30 respectively.
