Worried by the dearth of talents in the Super Eagles at the Russia 2018 World Cup, the team’s manager
Gernot Rohr has decided to shop for Nigerians who can effectively use the left foot to strengthen the
squad.

Kayode Olanrewaju

Sportinglife.ng  scooped in Saint Petersburg on Thursday that Rohr feels strongly that his
team needs left footers for the left wing back position, left wingers and midfielders to compliment the
team’s depth in strength instead of the tardy option of using right legged players to man such
positions.

The dearth of left footers in the team was very evident at the left wing back position where Rohr had
to draft right legged Brian Idowu to man the position in Nigeria’s matches. Idowu was replaced in the
first game against Iceland in the second half by Tyrone Ebuehi.

Idowu played the 90 minutes against Croatia and Argentina but he blamed by soccer pundits over his
inability to track down Lionel Messi all through Nigeria’s last Group D game against the Argentines
inside the Saint Petersburg Stadium.

Indeed, Nigeria’s left side of the field has been manned by right footers which have not been as
effective as the right side of the field when the Eagles played with natural right footers.

Names such as Chidiebere Nwakali, his younger brother Kelechi, Henry Onyekuru, Olukayode Olarenwaju et
al are been bandied to be invited to fight for shirts in such left sided positions, ahead of
Nigeria’s qualification games for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations holding in Cameroon.
