Super Eagles head coach, Gernot Rohr has tasked John Ogu to leave the Israeli league for a more recognised league in Europe if he is to have a future with the team.
Rohr commended Ogu for his role in the away draw with the Bafana Bafana of South Africa in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier which guaranteed the Eagles a place at the finals scheduled for Cameroon.
He said the Hapoel Be’er Sheva defensive midfielder played very well as a replacement for Wilfred Ndidi who was not available for the encounter because of card accumulation and that Ogu replaced the Leicester City anchorman seamlessly.
The Franco-German however disclosed that with the Israeli league not on high level with other recognized leagues in Europe it will be difficult for the club to bring out the best from Ogu which is what he wants of the player to enable him earn more than invitation to the Eagles.
“He had a responsibility to replace Ndidi and he did exceptionally well against South Africa,” Rohr said to journalists.
“He is a good player but he plays in Israel. Israel is not on a real high level. I hope he finds a new club in another league.
” I love Ogu because he is very disciplined and also very tall like Ndidi which is good for teams with tall players like South Africa which we played last Saturday. We need a good balance between tall and short players in our team. If he finds a new club he will progress better than he is presently.”

Ogu was also fielded by Rohr yesterday in the Eagles friendly match with the Cranes of Uganda but he started the game as a centre back along with Semi Ajayi.
