Super Eagles manager, Gernot Rohr is confident that Deportivo La Coruna goalkeeper Francis Uzoho will not be destroyed by the World Cup.

The 19-year-old looks destined to be Nigeria’s first choice at the Mundial following the absence of Carl Ikeme who is recovering from acute leukaemia.

Uzoho made his debut for the three-time African Champions during a 4-2 win against Argentina in a friendly and followed that with games against European duo Poland and Serbia which hands him the advantage over Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Daniel Akpeyi.

However, there are fears in some quarters that he may not be good enough for the number one spot of the Super Eagles especially after conceding three times in a recent game for the Deportivo B side.

‘I’m not afraid for Uzoho,’ Rohr said on Supersports Monday night football. ‘The World Cup is not the end of life. He is still a young goalkeeper.’

If Uzoho eventually makes the 23-man squad to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, he may become the youngest ever Super Eagles number one at the Mundial.
