Ronaldinho ‘unhappy’ in Paraguay prison says friend who visited Brazil icon

Ronaldinho is struggling to cope with being banged up in a Paraguayan jail.

That’s according to ex-River Plate ace Nelson Cuevas, who says the Brazil legend is feeling despondent.

The former Barcelona and AC Milan star has been warned he could spend up to six months in prison
The former striker – and his brother Roberto de Assis – are currently under investigation for using fake passports.

Both men are in a specialised unit – which is usually reserved for high-profile prisoners and politicians.

“He is sad,” Cuevas told Argentine news outlet Infobae. “Hopefully, he can get out soon.

“He is just sad because of the situation. His lawyers are handling the rest, I hope he can get out of there soon.”

Paraguayan Minister of Interior, Euclides Acevedo, has previously claimed the superstar’s current accommodation is “almost like a hotel”.

Cuevas admitted where Ronaldinho is staying isn’t as bad as it could be.

When asked about Acevedo’s comments, he added: “In comparison to other penitentiaries, yes.

“But it’s not what he’s used to. The place is big and he was able to play football too.

“He is with his brother in a room with two beds.”

Ronaldinho jetted to Paraguay last week to take part in a charity event.

However, he was detained by the authorities after allegedly attempting to use bogus documentation.

Both Ronaldinho and his brother requested house arrest.

But Paraguay-based judge Clara Ruiz was in no mood for leniency and claimed that “there is a flight risk and there is a danger of obstruction.”

Ronaldinho’s defence team claim the passport had been given to him as a special gift.

He then allegedly handed it over at the airport having mistaken it for his Brazilian one.
