Ronaldo Returns for Juve amid Rape Allegation

Cristiano Ronaldo is prepared to take on Udinese in Serie A on Saturday, according to Massimiliano Allegri.

The Portuguese forward was banned for the 3-0 victory in the Champions League against Young Boys on Tuesday evening, with Paulo Dybala scoring a hat-trick in that game.

But there are issues swirling around Ronaldo. The 33-year-old has issued a strong denial over allegations he sexually assaulted a woman in Las Vegas in 2009.

Kathryn Mayorga, a 34-year-old teacher who was an aspiring model at the time of the alleged assault, claims Ronaldo raped her in a bathroom at the Palms Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas in the early hours of June 13, 2009.

Legal papers submitted by Mayorga’s legal team to the Las Vegas police authorities claimed he attacked her even though she was screaming ‘No, no, no!’

Ronaldo has also been left out of the Portugal national team after discussions with manager Fernando Santos and the head of the FA.

Even so, Allegri is convinced Ronaldo can face Udinese on Saturday.

‘I’ve known Cristiano for three months now and for over 15 years of his career he has shown to be a great professional both on and off the pitch,’ he said.

‘He is ready to return to action tomorrow.’

Ronaldo, 33, has dismissed Mayorga’s claim as ‘fake news’ and reasserted this in a Twitter message posted on Wednesday afternoon.

He wrote: ‘I firmly deny the accusations being issued against me. Rape is an abominable crime that goes against everything that I am and believe in.

Keen as I may be to clear my name, I refuse to feed the media spectacle created by people seeking to promote themselves at my expense.

‘My clear conscious [sic] will thereby allow me to await with tranquillity the results of any and all investigations.’

Elsewhere, his boot sponsors Nike said they were ‘deeply concerned by the disturbing allegations’ facing the Juventus star and said they, ‘will continue to closely monitor the situation.’
