Ronaldo reveals why Diego Maradona wore two watches

Brazilian football icon Ronaldo Nazario has revealed the reason the late Diego Maradona, who was a close friend of his, used to wear two watches at the same time.

The legendary Argentine sadly died last week Wednesday at the age of 60 after suffering a heart attack at his home in Tigre, sending the football world into mourning.

Ronaldo Nazario is one of the many who were touched by Maradona’s passing, as was visible in a recent press conference attended by the Real Valladolid president, who said he was “eternally grateful” for the late 1986 FIFA World Cup hero.

The former Brazil striker then also explained Maradona’s reasoning for always wearing two watches on his wrists.

“I was very close with Diego, he was a spectacular guy,” he said, according to Marca.

“He left us an incredible legacy in football. His loss is unfortunate and very hard. The news caught me by surprise, and it was very sad. I want to send commiserations to his family and friends.

“Diego changed the lives of many people. I am and will always be eternally grateful for the inspiration that Maradona gave me.

“One of the first times he came to Madrid to visit me and watch a game, we had dinner. Diego wore two watches and the legend about his watches was that he couldn’t move without them.

“I asked him why, and he told me that his daughter had given him the two watches and since then he had never taken them off. At the end of the dinner he took one off and gave it to me.

“I didn’t want to accept it, but he got angry at my refusal, so I ended up accepting it. I will keep it all my life as a gesture of his generosity and kindness.”

Tributes for Maradona have poured in from all around the world since his passing last week, including from Lionel Messi, who celebrated his most recent goal by paying homage to his former Argentina boss.
