Ronaldo spares Solskjaer’s blushes as Man Utd secure comeback win over Atalanta

Cristiano Ronaldo scored a late winner as Manchester United staged a stunning comeback from two goals down to beat Atalanta in the Champions League.

After winning just two of their last seven games heading into the clash, United were on the ropes early at Old Trafford.

Former Chelsea midfielder Mario Pasalic turned in a cross to open the scoring for Atalanta after 15 minutes.

Merih Demiral then headed in a second to put United down 2-0 going into the break.

Marcus Rashford pulled one back for the Red Devils early in the second-half with a sweet finish.

The scores were tied with 15 minutes remaining when skipper Harry Maguire drove the ball past Juan Musso.

Ronaldo then capped off the remarkable comeback six minutes later, heading in a dramatic winner to put United top of Group F after three games.

It is amazing to think how different the narrative would have been surrounding Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had United failed to get something from this match.

The Norwegian will be hoping momentum from this win carries into Sunday’s clash with fierce rivals Liverpool.
