Ronaldo urges Man Utd to sign winger in possible £110m deal

Cristiano Ronaldo is keen to see Manchester United push the boat out and sign Juventus winger Federico Chiesa.

The Red Devils have had a mixed start to the new Premier League season with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer already coming under huge pressure.

Just two wins in their last six matches in all competitions hasn’t impressed fans after the club brought Raphael Varane, Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho to the club in the summer transfer window.

Ronaldo has scored five goals in his first six matches for the Red Devils after joining from Juventus for an initial £13.5million with the fee likely to rise.

And now the 36-year-old wants to see United bring in some more creativity as former Juventus team-mate Chiesa is linked to Old Trafford.

Calciomercato (via Sport Witness) has claimed that Ronaldo ‘wants’ the Red Devils to splash out on the Italy international as soon as possible.

And agent Ivan Reggiani, who appeared as a guest on the website, claims that a pursuit from Man Utd for Chiesa would be “heavily supported” by Ronaldo.

“I think there are very serious and important foreign pressures on him. Appreciated across the Channel [in England], he is heavily supported by Cristiano Ronaldo,” Reggiani said.

“I think Federico can leave Juventus very soon. It can easily exceed one hundred million. There are not only United: there are 2-3 clubs that could reach €120-130m (£102-£110m).”

Meanwhile, former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan recently claimed that Ronaldo will be Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s “undoing” at United.

Jordan said: “If you’ve got a manager who is being superseded by a player, the manager needs to be the biggest personality, the biggest image in people’s minds.

“We all know talent wins games, but ultimately, he needs to be P.T Barnum – not Ronaldo.

“He needs to be the circus master and it is a problem that will be built up and spun up and it will be his undoing.

“The signing of Cristiano Ronaldo will be his undoing, because it will be the narrative, it will be the stick that is used against him every single time that it doesn’t work the way it should do.

“I tell you why I am not surprised; when a player walks off the pitch giving it the big’un because he is not happy about it, rather than towing the line and showing a bit of respect to the manager that has picked him or not picked him.

“You’re going to have this, you’re going to have the opportunity for journalists to come in and say, ‘look at what he is doing, there is a rift developing there.’

“All of a sudden, it will be Ronaldo against the manager, or it’ll be about what is happening with Ronaldo.

“The point I made was about Bruno Fernandes. I was more interested in listening to the situation with Bruno Fernandes, talking about the lack of return in these games and the real disappointment he felt.

“Rather than the grinning, gurning Norwegian that’s talking about this young pup and how he knows better than the so-called expert.”
