Rony’s combination of Neymar and Pogba style fails to click

Palmeiras striker Rony suffered a ‘penalty nightmare’ during their Club World Cup clash with Egyptian side Al Ahly SC on Thursday night.

With the score tied at 0-0 following regulation time and extra time, Rony stepped up to take a penalty during the 3rd and 4th playoff in Qatar.

However, the 25-year-old was left red-faced when his bizarre run-up saw Al Ahly goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawi save his shot with ease.

Three of Palmeiras’ key players – Rony, Luiz Adriano and Felipe Melo – all missed a penalty.

However, it was Rony’s unconventional run-up that caught the attention of those on social media.

In what can only be described as a strange combination of Paul Pogba and Neymar’s techniques, Rony started by standing so far back from the penalty spot that he was outside of the box.

He then replicated Neymar’s tradition of moving to his left before running towards the ball at full throttle.

The 25-year-old then chose to incorporate an element of Poga’s technique by drastically slowing down and completing a stuttered run-up to the ball – which saw him take several tiny steps before shooting.

And as if that wasn’t enough to cram into one 12 yard shot, Rony decided to add a Bruno Fernandes hop before making contact with the ball.

Despite adding all three elements taken from each world class footballer, El Shenawi made an easy save to his left-hand-side.

As a result, Egyptian side Al Ahly SC won the game 3-2 on penalties to claim third place.
