Rooney hints of Man Utd agreement over new Mengi loan

Derby boss Wayne Rooney has hinted there’s an agreement in principle to take Teden Mengi on loan for another season.

The promising Manchester United defender has impressed on a loan stint in the East Midlands in the latter half of this season which has left his manager, Rooney, desperate for his return.

Mengi has performed at both right-back and centre-back over the course of his seven appearances at Pride Park.

Speaking following the Rams’ victory over Luton Town on Good Friday, Rooney revealed that he wants Mengi back next season but that the decision is now down to the teenager.

“I’d very much like him back next season,” the former United forward told The Athletic. “It’s on the player now.”
