Saka compared to Giggs, Bergkamp and Scholes after Arsenal display

Robin van Persie has said that Bukayo Saka reminds him of the likes of Ryan Giggs, Dennis Bergkamp and Paul Scholes after the youngster impressed during Arsenal’s Europa League clash against Olympiakos.

Bukayo Saka gave another impressive display out of position at left-back

Saka has produced a number of strong displays for the Gunners this season and starred once again as they won the first leg of their round-of-32 tie.

The 18-year-old set up Alexandre Lacazette’s 81st-minute winner with an inch-perfect cross to give Mikel Arteta’s side a 1-0 win and a crucial away goal in Greece.

It was his ninth assist in all competitions this season and prompted Van Persie to draw comparisons to some Premier League greats.

“Ryan Giggs used to give those passes, Dennis Bergkamp, Paul Scholes,” said the former Dutch international while appearing as a pundit on BT Sport.

“This is like ordering your striker to move into the danger zone. It’s actually world-class. Really, really good.

“This is not simple. This is very good, world-class. He makes it look easy but this pass – like I said, only the great players can give those passes.

“Most crosses there would be kicked away by the defender and would be shot too high or too low with no idea.

“But this is a pass with an idea. This is a pass with a message, and that is what you want from your players.”

Although Saka is primarily considered as an attacking player, injuries to the likes of Sead Kolasinac and Kieran Tierney have seen the England Under-19 international increasingly used at left-back.

However, he has continued to excel in that role and put in another strong performance to draw further praise from his manager.

Van Persie has also been impressed with how the teenager has stepped up, adding: “He’s really taking his chance, and that’s nice to see from a young kid to really grab his chance and play for his future.

“And he’s doing it so well. It’s so nice to see.”
