Salah apologises to Egyptians for World cup flop

.vows to bounce back in 2022

Egypt international and Liverpool forward Mohammed Salah has apologised to his countrymen following the Pharaohs early exit from the World cup in Russia.

Salah who prior to the start of the world cup was in superlative form for Liverpool was tipped to lift the Pharaohs to a super performance in Russia.  However injury in the UEFA champions league against Real Madrid forced the 26 year old to head to the World cup half fit missing the first match against Uruguay which Egypt lost by a lone goal.

Although he returned in the game against hosts Russia scoring a goal, it did not stop the pharaohs from losing the game 3-1.

A final 2-1 loss to Saudi Arabia ensured that the Pharaohs left the World cup without winning a match.  Salah after the tie against Saudi Arabia did not only apologise to Egyptians fans that travelled all the way to support the team but also the entire nation for the ouster.

“We want to apologise to all the Egyptian fans who came to support us here in the three matches, I know it is difficult for them, like us,” the 26-year-old stated.

“I just want to say that Egypt reached the World Cup after 28 years, some players here do not have the required experience. Thanks to all of them and we will back again in 2022.”

This World Cup marked the first time that the Pharaohs had reached the finals since 1990, which in turn marked their first appearance since the second tournament back in 1934.

Egypt are still waiting for their maiden win at the finals, having drawn two and lost five of their World Cup games to date.

Coach Hector Cuper however denied rumours   that Salah would leave the Egypt national team after the 2-1 defeat to Arab rivals Saudi Arabia, even as he dismissed insinuations that team had crisis.

“As far as I know there have not been problems. I don’t think [Salah will quit]. I don’t think it’s true because all those who are here really appreciate the opportunity. I don’t think that’s true.”

Egypt finished last in Group A and may have wished Salah wasn’t injured before the tournament.
