Salah opens up on “tension” with Mane at Liverpool

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has admitted there was “tension” between him and former teammate Sadio Mane during their time at Anfield.

In an interview with France Football, Salah addressed long-standing rumours of rivalry between the pair, particularly the frequent criticism that he didn’t pass to Mane enough during matches.

“Yes, there was tension with Sadio,” Salah confirmed. “Mind you, we were professional until the end; I don’t think it affected the team. It’s human to want more, I understand that; he’s a competitor. Off the pitch, we weren’t very close, but we always respected each other.”

Their competitive edge also spilled over onto the international stage, as Mane’s Senegal defeated Salah’s Egypt in the final of the Africa Cup of Nations.

Responding to claims of selfishness on the pitch, Salah dismissed the criticism: “People can think what they want; it’s their right. But I invite everyone to note that the person who provided Mané with the most assists is me,” he added.
