Sammy Ameobi shines as Forest floor Luton Town

Nigeria born Nottingham Forest winger Sammy Ameobi rose to the occasion on Saturday grabbing a 58th minute goal that sealed victory over Luton Town  at Kenilworth Road.

Teammate Joe Lolley found Ameobi at the far post, who was given time to turn, with his deflected effort beating Shea to double Forest’s advantage.  Homeboy Lewis Grabban had shot the visitors into the lead in the 39th minute.

Ameobi appeared not be satisfied with his goal as he pressed forward in search of a second but with Town goalkeeper Shea saving from 25 yards.

Having dropped out of the top two following defeats to Wigan and Hull, Sabri Lamouchi’s side showed little sign of letting that affect them as they dominated for long periods.

The visitors missed a wonderful opportunity in the 12th minute as they sliced open the Town defence, Grabban firing wildly wide from 12 yards when he should have hit the target at least.

Town had a goal disallowed in the 23rd minute, when Dan Potts converted at the second attempt at the far post only to be flagged offside

With three minutes left, Luton sub Callum McManaman gave his side a sniff, taking LuaLua’s pass to wriggle free superbly and then beat Samba with an excellent bending effort.

Town finally came alive in the closing stages, firing from all angles with intent to levelling up but Forest held onto the final whistle to pocket three points.

Sammy’s elder brother Shola while on  Super Eagles assignment

Sammy Ameobi who featured for both Nigeria and England U-21 sides did confirm at a stage that he wants to follow the footsteps of his elder brother Shola Ameobi who played for the Super Eagles making about 10 appearances scoring two goals.

The former Newcastle ace scored his two goals for the Super Eagles in two friendly matches against Burkina Faso in Kaduna and against Italy at the Craven Cottage.
