Scorecard: Osimhen, Onuachu, others prove their worth in Europe

Nigeria strikers are living no stone unturned in their quest to be counted among the best in Europe in the last few days.

Players like Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen, Genk goal-king, Paul Onuachu, Emmanuel Dennis, Cyriel Dessers, and Frank Onyeka played their hearts out to prove their worth in the European leagues.

Osimhen scored a brace to rescue Napoli from the 2-2 draw Europa League game against Leicester City. It was a performance that would have certainly alerted several Premier League clubs to his prowess. Do not be surprised if one of these clubs made an audacious bid for him in January.

Onuachu, the giant striker netted his fourth goal in the Belgian league to hand Genk a 2-1 win at local rivals Sint-Truiden. The derby match-winner followed immediately after his 50th goal for Genk with another match-winner at Rapid Vienna of Austria in a UEFA Europe League group match.

He has continued to prove that last season when he scored 35 goals in all competitions was not a fluke and hopefully, he could still make the big transfer in January. In the meantime, Genk are happy to keep their “God Sent”.

One-cap Super Eagles striker, Dessers made a huge impact when he came off the bench to score and make an assist on his Dutch league debut against Feyenoord in a 4-0 thumping of home team PSV Eindhoven. It was a great way to announce his Second Coming to Holland.

Also, former Club Brugge forward, Dennis, is most certainly enjoying life in the Premier League after a rather turbulent time in Belgium after he grabbed his second goal to help Watford record their second win of the season. Watford will most certainly need his goals and other contributions to ensure they stay up in the top flight this term

Nigeria ace, Frank Onyeka, featured for the last 22 minutes and helped ten-man Brentford claim a stunning 2-0 victory at Wolverhampton Wanderers in a Premier League matchday five fixture.

The convincing win is Brentford’s first English top-flight triumph away from home in 74 years.

Alex Iwobi had a day to forget after Everton lost their unbeaten start in the Premier League following a 3-0 loss to Aston Villa at Villa Park.

In the Skybet Championship, Super Eagles hopeful Ovie Ejaria scored a brace as Reading stunned Fulham 2-1 at the Craven Cottage.

Ejaria put the Royals ahead in the 19th minute before scoring his second in the 53rd minute to double Reading’s advantage.

Nigerian forward, Ahmed Musa was impressive from the start to finish to help Fatih Karagumruk come from behind to seal a memorable 4-3 win at Yeni Malatyaspor on Friday evening.

Musa was not among the goals, but he certainly was one of Fatih Karagumruk’s better players on the night, contributing immensely in attack and in defence.

Moses Simon was outstanding for Nantes as he supplied two assists to help his side sail to a 4-1 victory against Angers in the Ligue 1.

After a run of three straight defeats, the Yellow canaries travelled to the stade Raymond-Kopa with the hope of ending their wretched streak against fourth-placed waves of anger.

In Scotland, Joe Aribo put up a great show for the Rangers as he provided the assist for Fashion Sakala’s goal that gave the Gers the lead in the 12th minute against Motherwell.

However, he was let down in the 66th minute, as Woolery scored an equaliser to restore parity.

Aribo was unable to conjure another assist for his team, and despite the Rangers’ seven shots on target, they had to make do with a 1-1 draw.

Chidozie Awaziem continued his brilliant start to life in Turkey with a man-of-the-match showing at the Türk Telekom Stadium to power Alanyaspor to a stunning 1-0 win over Galatasaray.

Awaziem, who only joined the Bülent Korkmaz-tutored side in September, was the hero when he scored the winning goal against Giresunspor on the 13th – his first match for the club.
