Semi Ajayi in action for 90 minutes as West Brom hit Chelsea 5-2

 

Super Eagles defender Semi Ajayi was in action for full 90 minutes as West Brom pulled a surprise 5-2 victory over Chelsea at the Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

The Nigeria international just back from international assignment as Nigeria defeated both Benin Republic and Lesotho to book place in next year Nations Cup in Cameroon, held his grounds in the defence as West Brom took the war to their hosts.

It was the first defeat the Blues will be suffering under new man Thomas Tuchel who has been enjoying impressive run since replacing former coach Frank Lampard. Chelsea had shot into the lead in the 27th minute of the match thanks to Christian Pulisic.

The lead however lasted only till the 45th minute before Matheus Pereira turned the match on its head with two quick goals four minutes of added time.

West Brom grabbed two quick goals within a space of five minutes again in the 63rd and 68th minutes respectively leaving the score line at 4-1 before homeboy Masson Mount scored the second goal for Chelsea in the 71st minute.

Ordinarily the match at this point could be said to have been won and lost but Ajayi and his teammates were not done yet as Callum Robbinson waited to a minute of added time before final whistle to complete his brace of the match and seal 5-2 victory for the visitors.
