Senegal hopeful as Mali exit U-20 World Cup in Poland

 

Junior lions of Senegal will attempt to fly the flag of the African continent further Saturday when they take on Korea Republic in the quarterfinal of the ongoing FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland. The Senegalese hit the quarterfinals after edging out fellow Africans Nigeria in the round of 16.

They were joined in the quarterfinals by Mali who unfortunately crashed out on Friday after losing 4-2 to Italy thus leaving Senegal as lone rangers.

Ukraine continued their impressive run in the championship beating hard fighting Columbia by a lone goal to zoom into the semifinals.

In the second quarterfinal tie scheduled for Saturday, United States will slug it out with Ecuador. England who are defending champions after winning in the finals of 2017 edition in Korea, failed to qualify for the 2019 edition.

With the exit of Argentina who are the most successful in the category haven won the championship a record six times followed by Brazil with five wins, whoever emerges champion when the curtain falls on June 15 will be entering the champions list for the first time.
