Serena moving closer to 24th Grand Slam reality
Twenty three Grand Slam Champion Serena Williams is on course towards the 24th title. Of the eight women remaining in the Australian Open quarterfinals, three are American and at least one is guaranteed to make the semifinals.
The mother of one as a matter of fact has been tipped to make it all the way to the finals as she continues in her quest to pocket another Grand Slam title. Serena had earlier described the delays in starting this year Aussie Open as a blessing in disguise as it afforded her the time to shape up.
Aside from Serena Williams, who faces world No. 2 Simona Halep at 3 a.m. EST on Tuesday there will be an all-American quarterfinal featuring No. 22 Jen Brady and unseeded Jessica Pegula.
Brady, a semifinalist at last year’s U.S. Open, and Pegula are friends who have played once before, at last summer’s Western & Southern Open in New York where Pegula won 7-6(5), 6-4.
“I’m super excited for [Pegula] making her first Grand Slam quarterfinal,” Brady said. “I know the emotions that she’s feeling.

You feel like you’re on cloud nine. She’s playing great tennis. We have played before. I think we both know each other so well and I’m really looking forward to it. It will be a lot of fun. I think everyone back home in America will be watching, definitely, and there’s guaranteed American in the semifinal.”
At last year’s U.S. Open, Serena, Brady and Shelby Rogers all reached the quarterfinals, with Serena and Brady both losing in the semifinals.
