Seven Days to Russia 2018: NFF remembers Keshi

Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Thursday paid tribute to late Super Eagles chief coach Stephen Keshi who passed away on this day two years ago, with seven days to the FIFA World Cup in Russia.

“Today we remember Nigeria and Africa football legend, Late Coach Stephen Okechukwu Keshi who passed on, on this day in 2016. Thank you for the memories ‘The Big Boss.’ We can never forget you,” NFF said on its Twitter handle.

Sportinglife.ng reports that Google used keshi’s image on their search engine (in 2017) to mark his posthumous remembrance and today (Thursday) tribute has been pouring in for the former national team coach.

A tweet on #werememberKeshi reads “Keshi was a winner and passionate on the job, a fantastic individual and resolute Leader.”

Keshi was the second Nigerian coach to qualify the three-time African champions for the World Cup and he also led the team to the tournament.

As a player, Keshi captained the Super Eagles at the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), that Nigeria won and he guided the team as Head Coach to the 2013 AFCON in South Africa which Nigerian also won.
