Silva opens up on why he opted for Real Sociedad

David Silva has opened up why he opted to join Real Sociedad on Monday evening, much to the chagrin of Lazio after the La Liga outfit completed a coup in securing the Spaniard on free transfer.

The Basque club made a move in the market that will help mitigate the loss of Martin Odegaard, who has returned to Real Madrid after his loan spell, and it says a lot that Silva was still a regular starter for Pep Guardiola at Manchester City right until the end of his time there.

The former Valencia playmaker is now hoping to win titles in San Sebastian and celebrate them with the club’s fans.

“I want to send a message to all Real fans, I’m very happy to have signed for this great club and hopefully we can win titles and celebrate them together,” Silva told La Real’s website.

“I have had quite a few offers, but I decided to join La Real because it is a club that is doing things very well and the style of play suits my game.

“I already know San Sebastian from when I was at Eibar a long time ago, and it’s a beautiful and quiet area, my family has played a role in this decision.”

Real Sociedad were one of La Liga Santander’s most potent attacking forces in 2019/20, and Silva is looking forward to being a part of that.

“I saw a lot of LaLiga and the truth is that Real Sociedad played very well,” he added.

“I have heard very good references for the coach and I think good things can be achieved.

“We can play great football, which for me is very important, it’s a beautiful and exciting challenge,”

Silva played for Valencia against La Real on multiple occasions and he has called upon fond memories of the Estadio Anoeta.

“I remember that the Anoeta’s pitch was always spectacular and the atmosphere has improved a lot without the running track,” he declared.

“I’m looking forward to seeing it.

“However, for now a little rest is good for the mind and my batteries will be recharged.”
