Solskjaer drops Ighalo transfer hint amid fine Man Utd show

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hinted that he could swoop for forward Odion Ighalo during summer’s transfer window after he put in another fine performance against LASK in the Europa League on Thursday night.

The Nigerian opened the scoring for Manchester United with a brilliant left-footed strike as his side went on to win 5-0 in Austria.

Ighalo juggled the ball on the edge of the LASK box despite being surrounded by defenders, before dispatching it in style into the top left-hand corner.

And having seen the 30-year-old excel once again, Solskjaer was full of praise for his back-up front man, hinting that a summer move could well be on the cards.

“The boys were fantastic, they deserve a lot of praise and credit for the way they went about the job,” said Solskjaer.

“There was a lot of quality in our finishing, some fantastic goals and a lot of football we should be proud of.

“Odion has done really well since he’s come in. He will improve and get better and has qualities we saw in him that we needed and they are qualities we will still need next season.

“He’s a goalscorer and a striker. He knows his job and what his role is in the team.

“He’s very good with his back to goal and a good link player, but best thing about him is his personality. He’s got the lot, really.

“He had three touches before he hit the ball and all were high quality to make space for himself. The strike on the half-volley was great timing, no-one would have saved that.”

United are due to face LASK in the second leg next Thursday, though coronavirus concerns could well force a postponement, with the first leg played behind closed doors.
