Solskjaer explains Donny van de Beek absence ahead of RB Leipzig

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has spoken out on the absence of Donny van de Beek ahead of his side’s Champions League clash with RB Leipzig on Wednesday.

The Netherlands international is yet to start a match in the Premier League or Champions League since his £40million move from Ajax. But that could be set to change.

United go up against RB Leipzig looking to build on their win over PSG last week.

Goals from Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford gave the Red Devils all three points that night, stunning the Ligue 1 giants at the Parc des Princes in the process.

United now face the current Bundesliga table-toppers looking to carry on their momentum.

And Solskjaer said: “We look at every single game as a chance to get three points and in the group stage of four teams, you’d think 10 points will get you through.

“To get to 10 points as quick as we can is our aim.”

At the weekend, Solskjaer left Van de Beek on the bench for the club’s dour goalless draw with Chelsea – something that’s sparked widespread criticism.

Patrice Evra and Gary Neville are just two people who have criticised the Red Devils boss for that decision, with the latter insisting he ‘wasn’t needed’ in the first place.

But Solskjaer has insisted Van de Beek will get his chance, saying: “When players come into a new team, a new league it’s always going to be a time that he adapts.

“When Donny has played, he’s played really well. It says a lot about our depth of quality in the squad that we don’t have to use him every game. It also says everything about our ambitions.
