Solskjaer: Man Utd getting fitter and stronger

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes it is far too early to be speaking about Manchester United challenging for the title.

The Red Devils moved into third with a 6-2 win over Leeds United on Sunday, leaving them five points behind leaders Liverpool with a game in hand.

And Solskjaer is pleased with how his side are improving.

He told reporters: “We’re one third into the season, we’re not even at the halfway point, so the league position is not something we look at.’

“We look at the improvement in the team, we look at the improvement in fitness because we knew we were going to be lagging behind in fitness, and I think it showed in the first few games but now, today, I think we showed we are getting a fitter and stronger team.”

When asked about the scoreline impacting United’s goal difference, the Norwegian added: “Sometimes they have shown and proven, unfortunately, to be very important goals [when deciding league titles and placings].

“When you add up in the end, you never give a goal away or you never stop trying for another one, so let’s see at the end.

“But we’re improving, getting better, getting fitter, getting stronger. There are some details we need to improve on but we’ll get there.”
