Solskjaer pleased with Cavani’s debut against Chelsea

Manchester United boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, is convinced that Edinson Cavani will score goals for the club after handing the Uruguay international his debut against Chelsea.

Cavani, who arrived on a free transfer earlier this month, was a second-half substitute during the goalless draw with the Blues in the Premier League.

The 33-year-old almost netted a minute into his debut with a near-post flick, while he also had a goal-bound strike blocked by former Paris Saint-Germain teammate Thiago Silva during a lively performance at Old Trafford.

Solskjaer has said that he was pleased with the centre-forward’s display and is confident that the goals will come for the South American.

“He showed in glimpses [what he can do]. He’ll give us a presence in the box,” Man United’s official website quotes Solskjaer as saying. “There was a nice little run towards the near post, a nice little flick. He almost had another one when Thiago Silva had a great block – that would have been great for him.

“He has clever movements, great runs. He is an experienced centre-forward and the more we get the ball into him in and around the box we will get some goals from him. He has come in and had a great influence on the training ground already but we know he needs game time to get his sharpness.”

Cavani could make his Champions League debut for the club in Wednesday’s clash with RB Leipzig.
